All About East Columbia / Hayden Island / Bridgeton
Portland really does have a little bit of everything, and Hayden Island is proof. Part urban and part wilderness, this island features the best of modern living, along with easy access to beautiful natural areas so expansive that it's easy to forget that homes and businesses are just around the bend.
The Portland International Raceway (PRI) is also here—a historical racing track that was built on the former location of Vanport, Oregon, after a flood destroyed the city. Paved in the 1970s and renovated in 2008, the once-deteriorating racetrack features regulation lanes and Formula One-style curbs. In 1999 and 2000, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series ran a race at PIR; today, the up-to-date track hosts drag races, motor events, and other entertainment.
On the east end of the island, Jantzen Beach Center blinks its neon at shoppers and tourists; heading west, the buildings melt away into wetlands, boating areas, and lovely river views. The homes here are very diverse, and include large, modern homes, manufactured and mobile homes, riverfront condos, floating homes, and new construction.
Nearby Delta Park is a gem for leisure seekers, urban wildlife watchers, and participants in almost all sports. The park boasts as offering one of Portland’s largest athletic facilities, and features more soccer, football, and lacrosse fields and baseball and softball diamonds than most any other Portland park.
